United Plugins releases JMG Sound Cryostasis

United plugins announced the availability of Cryostasis founding partner plugin His JMG. They describe it as an aptly named Spectral Inertia effect allowing gradual smearing of any audio until it is frozen in time infinitely, through spectral effects and controls that shape the frozen tail character to blur audio into atmospheric soundscapes. Here are the details in their own words…

Cryostasis itself is defined as the reversible cryopreservation of living biological objects; At first sight, therefore, it is also an appropriate name for an effect plug-in that puts the music in a state of inertia – if it is possible to imagine such a thing. Luckily, the imaginative team at JMG Sound have come up with a spectral freeze effect called Cryostasis to do just that, so users can focus on pointing their music in a different direction, both quickly and easily. , thanks to its spectral effects and controls that shape the character of the Frozen Tail to blur audio into atmospheric soundscapes. All are controlled by a continuously variable “freeze” button or automatic switch that can be timed in milliseconds or musical measures. Manually control the freezing process with the aforementioned button or tell Cryostasis how quickly to change the sound from normal to frozen, in other words.

Plus, though, there’s more to the seemingly simple Cryostasis plugin than meets the eye. Examples of this include the SIZE parameter, which will change the duration of the spectral window, which in itself will completely change the sonic character – lower values sound artificial and robotic, while higher values sound softer and atmospheric. And the easy-on-the-eye Graphical User Interface (GUI) balancing is WASH, which controls the amount of reverb used to diffuse and smooth the “freeze” effect into a lush, smoothly modulated tail of reverb. Try creating ambiance and spaced out soundscapes that dissolve in the ether – surely sweet (ambient) dreams are made of it, while it can even be used as a sound design tool to create frozen vocal loops to load in a sampler!

Saying that, users can quickly fine-tune the resulting frozen sound color with four filter controls – PITCH (controls the depth of pitch change scaled by the “freeze” control, with a range of -24 to +24 semitones); FILTER (controls the depth of HP — high pass — and LP — low pass — filtering scaled by the “freeze” command); LOFI (controls the amount of BITS and RATE reduction scaled by the “freeze” command); and SHIFT (controls the frequency shift scaled by the ‘freeze’ command, with a range of -1kHz to +1kHz) – for even more unique results. Creatively coupling that LOFI magic with lower SIZE values, creating dirty robotic glitches over dusty, washed-out soundscapes becomes a cinch. It’s also possible to create a tape-stop type effect – in which the sound seems to slow down over time until it’s completely frozen forever – by coupling the “freeze” effect with the built-in PITCH shifter .

And as if that weren’t enough to make Cryostasis users shiver with excitement – and hopefully not with an energy crisis-induced chill when working with Cryostasis in colder climates, it’s worth noting. that it also has a continuously variable freeze feature – unlike most other freeze plugins, so users can smoothly switch between freeze states, or even partially freeze to create freezing effects temporal smudging.

As always, JMG Sound’s highly creative Cryostasis plug-in shares several admirable attributes with the other members of the family which now number 26 plug-ins, each playing their part in United Plugins’ proliferating product portfolio, delivering audio quality maximum using internal 64-bit audio. processing while still being able to handle any sample rate – why not try it at 192kHz (or even higher)? — and also the fact that it intelligently detects whether it makes sense to perform any processing; otherwise, it temporarily enters sleep mode, which means it requires virtually no CPU power, thus saving computing resources for other processes. Similarly, testing a photorealistic yet flexible 3D GUI with Cryostasis makes its users feel like they’re working with real-world hardware; however, it easily adapts to their needs since they can always drag the arrow in the bottom right corner to change its size – smaller to save valuable “screen space” or larger to make it more user-friendly. the eye and therefore even easier to use than it already is.

So it’s fair to say that there are (almost) endless possibilities for Cryostasis users to create creative transitions applicable to single tracks or entire songs in the studio or on stage. Being frozen has never been so much fun – or so quickly reversible!

Price and availability:

JMG Sound’s Cryostasis is available to purchase for a time-limited introductory promotional price of just €19.00 until November 13, 2022 – then dropping to its regular price of €79.00 – as AAX- , AU-, VST-, and VST3-compatible plug-in (using 64-bit internal audio processing capable of handling any sample rate).
