Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 seeks to set new standards in sound

Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 3 was the subject of a very small announcement earlier in the year, but now they’ve been officially unveiled, and they’re looking to reaffirm Sennheiser’s position as one of the best true brands wireless.

It’s been two years since we reviewed the Momentum True Wireless 2, giving it five stars, saying it was “among the best with its captivating audio performance”. As you’d expect, the third entry in the Momentum series of headphones isn’t looking to rest on its laurels, with a different design, better specs and claims of improved sound.

Just like the previous earphone, the sound quality of the Momentum True Wireless 3 is based on Sennheiser’s 7mm True Response driver, aiming to produce “immersive stereo sound with deep bass, natural mids and detailed highs. “.

The new sound personalization feature will offer users the ability to improve and perfect their own personal hearing experience by taking them through a listening test. Equalizer and sound presets are available in the upgraded Smart Control app to customize the sound even more.

Noise cancellation has been replaced by adaptive ANC, adapting the strength of the bud canceling capabilities to what it can hear in the real-time environment. With Transparency Mode, listeners can turn off noise cancellation and let their surroundings filter through for better awareness.

AptX Adaptive and Bluetooth 5.2 compliance are built in to help provide a stable connection between headphones and device that (hopefully) doesn’t drop out in the busiest signal areas; while aptX support enables resolutions up to 24-bit/96kHz, enabling high-res audio streaming (nice if you subscribe to Qobuz, Amazon Music HD and Tidal).

The battery is the same as the older model at 7 hours per bud and 28 with the charging case. This was an area we felt could be improved with ANC on and Sennheiser said the battery ANC isn’t far off from the quoted battery life figures. Wireless and fast charging are standard.

A final word on the appearance, which has undergone an overhaul. They have more in common with Sennheiser’s CX series, a less rounded but more svelte profile with a different look to the touch control area. They will be available in three colors (white, black and graphite) and will feature IPX4 resistance to repel water and perspiration.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 are available to pre-order now, officially on sale from 10th May 2022. They are priced at £219.99 / €249.90 / $399.95 AUD / $249.95 / $329 $.95 CAD. It is also expected to launch in China in June.
