Schwab: This type of Putin and his lies sound familiar to me

By Sid Schwab / Herald Columnist

One of the results of Vladimir Putin’s criminal war is that it is conceivable – though unlikely – that followers of America’s right-wing disinformation mills who pose as “news” organizations could notice the lies emanating from state-controlled Russian media and draw comparisons.

Putin’s sycophants, carrying out his orders, denying the evidence, reinforcing his lies. Somewhere, deep in disaffected parts of their brains, the Foxotrumpified might sense certain similarities and seek information elsewhere. It could save America, if not Ukraine (Daily Kos: and Washington Post:

In the face of global outrage, Putin doesn’t care. As his lies are documented, he lies more. Its only supporters among the leaders are the world’s worst dictators. Sound familiar? Trump still defends it, while insulting America. And he continues to envy Kim Jong-un’s “total control”. Fair warning (MSNBC:

Speaking of the worst in the world, we just saw Reps. Lauren Bobert, R-Colo., and Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Gas., who the “worst in the world” underestimates, yell at President Biden during of his State of the Union address to Congress. Belligerently. Proudly. Fundraising. Not-reprimanded-by-the-Republicans. Own-the-libs-but-never-legislate. The more feedback they receive from liberals, the more satisfied they are with themselves and their fellows, Tucker, Laura, Jeanine, et al., Are.

To create destructive indignation is their work horror. It’s their most reliable vote/money earner because it’s what keeps their uninformed voters/audience coming back. That, and the hypocrisy, never more apparent than when those truckers were blockading Ottawa. After decrying BLM and an almost imaginary antifa every time protesters blocked a road for a period of time – as if it were a revolution that was collapsing America against all that is good – they treated these truckers like heroes they were not. “Law and order” Hannity practically encouraged violence against the Canadian police who were arresting them (Newsweek:

During Canada’s convoy, there were still rules in place to protect citizens from covid-19; deserving, therefore, to protest because freedom. America’s freedom-saving “people’s convoy,” meanwhile, came to DC to protest what was already on the way out. Perhaps realizing their belated ridicule, they didn’t really block. Going around the ring road for a while, encountering the worst senses in the world. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., confirming everything you thought about this pair. Heading to Atlanta, maybe, to protest New Coke.

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson hit a new low (or high, for those who love his lowliness) when he asked to see the LSAT scores of President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson. Golly: He never asked about Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh or Neil Gorsuch. Can anyone see the difference? It was even worse than his flattering defense of Putin because he, Putin, never hurt him, Tucker, personally; and Tucker is what matters to Tucker. It is not in spite of so much vomiting that people look at him; it’s because of it. Those seeking the truth would have given up on him long ago (Wall Street Journal:

But Tucker is not the only one to denigrate Judge Jackson, whose legal record is of excellence, her vast and unique professional career. Because she was once a public defender, however, she is “soft on crime,” the Republican senators claim, deploying a favorite right-wing shibboleth. And Senator Mitch “Dark Money Poster-boy” McConnell, R-Ky, is VERY worried there’s “dark money” behind his nomination; while the black money behind the aforementioned Trump appointees could pay for an unseized Russian oligarch’s yacht.

For some reason, McConnell forgot to mention Judge Jackson’s police endorsements. But, after rushing Ms Coney Barrett in a minute, he and his persuasions remembered to accuse Democrats of rushing Justice Jackson, whose nomination follows a typical timeline. Why wasn’t Mitch turned to stone after his “black money” and “rushed” double? Are there no gods?

Everything is upside down. Climate change is fake, Q is real. Masks don’t work, vaccines kill. To refuse them is a matter of patriotic freedom. Putin’s war is President Biden’s fault. (John Bolton says Putin delayed the invasion because he was waiting for Trump to pull out of NATO in his second term.) (Business Insider:

Consider the sacrifices made by Americans during World War II; ask yourself how and why so much has changed. The women turned their nylon stockings upside down to make ropes and parachutes. Pots and pans too: metal to make war machines. People accepted, without complaint, the rationing of milk, gas, coal, butter, sugar, firewood. And shoes. Planted Victory Gardens. “Freedom isn’t free,” hollered the anti-mask groans, while refusing the small sacrifice of protecting America by masking up.

Joining hands against real Nazis, this generation was wholeheartedly ready to endure hardship, to defend freedom that was truly threatened. Now, the Trumpofoxified take Anthony Fauci for a Nazi, and themselves for patriots defending freedom in no way threatened. What happened? Newt Gingrich has arrived. Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Mitch McConnell. Rupert Murdock. And finally, icing on the cheeseburger, Donald Trump.

These Foxified and Fox-adored truck conveyors have it all: selfishness, arrogance, delusion, misdirected anger. Which exposes another thing we learn from Putin’s atrocities: what true heroism and patriotism look like.
