Lucknow: As the poll campaign has gone virtual due to the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, political parties have gone the musical route to woo voters and produce songs to boost supporters’ morale, congratulate their leaders and launch slight warnings to their opponents.
Kanhaiya Srivastav, owner of a recording studio in Gorakhpur, told TOI that he has a team of singers and songwriters who compose songs for various political parties.
“We expect good deals this time around in light of the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the electoral commission. Songs are being written for all parties and we recently recorded one for Congress, ”he said.
UP BJP’s social media manager Ankit Chandel said the party has not officially commissioned any songs, but members have volunteered to post songs on their own.
“The BJP has a multitude of committed and talented workers. Some of them are singers and have prepared songs for the campaign. The party has selected a few songs that will be played at party events and meetings, ”he said.
Many songs are played in various programs and functions, including weddings.
One of them published by a member of the Sunil Yadav party is “Chinta chhodo baais ki, taiyyari karo safai ki”.
Samajwadi Party Culture Cell Chairman Dharmendra Solanki said he composed over 1,000 songs during his 23 years of association with the party. A song he composed a few years ago was picked up by FM channels in Nepal and has become a hit in border areas.
“Some of the songs we have released so far for this election include” Button dabega cycle ka, Sultan badalne wala hai, baais mein UP ka parinam badalne wala hai “and” Aayega jab nateeja to akhbar dekh lena, iss baar cycle ki raftar dekh lena ‘”, he declared.
“I raise people’s voices through my songs. I wrote a song about the threat of stray cattle – ‘Chahe kuchh bhi tum kar lo judgaad Babaji, tumko wapis karenge tere saand Babaji’, ”he added.
Bhojpuri singer Suraj Mishra Vyas from Gorakhpur released a song in support of Yogi Adityanath in 2017, which became a hit.
Last Saturday he released a teaser of his new song for CM. “After the 2017 assembly elections, I recorded a song about Yogi Adityanath, ‘Sagro UP walon ko uphar milal ba, Yogi Baba jaisan CM damdaar milal ba’. It attracted over 3.5 lakh views, ”he said.
“I do songs only for the BJP. My new composition for Yogi Adityanath is “Vikas dekh kar dil hua diwana, suno ji phir se Yogiji ko lana”. The song was composed by Dr Shashikant Mishra from Salempur, ”Vyas added.
Besides Anurag Suman, famous Bhojpuri singer Dinesh Lal Yadav aka Nirahua also released a song, “Ayenge to Yogi hi”.
Sandeep Acharya’s song, “UP mein gundai karoge to aukaat dikha denge, Gorakhpur wale Baba hain, ghar nilaam kara denge”, also became popular.
Former SP MLC Ashu Malik, who composed at least five songs, said party members and leaders with a musical bent were composing songs on their own.
“We released a song, ‘Janata pukarti hai Akhilesh aayiye’ which was sung by Altamas Faridi and written by Bilal, a poet from Saharanpur. There is another song to the glory of Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, “Teri alag sabse yahan baat Mulayam”. We have a song, “Leader jo sabko le kar saath chale”, was also prepared for party chairman Akhilesh Yadav, ”he said.
