JID, 21 Savage and Baby Tate unite for ‘surround sound’

JID has spent the last two years working on his next album, The Eternal Story. He looked set to release it in 2020, but the uncertainty behind sharing a project during a pandemic caused the rapper to delay his release as he revealed during a series of tweets that year. “I try to line it up perfectly because it’s hard to create in uncertain times,” he wrote. The following year, he again teased the project by sharing studio shots with collaborators like 6lack, Buddy, Denzel Curry, Rico Nasty, and Smino. This year, it seems the cards have fallen in the right place for the arrival of The Eternal Story.

JID kicks off their 2022 campaign with their brand new single, “Surround Sound”. The track features contributions from 21 Savage and Baby Tate for what amounts to a hard-hitting release. JID leads the way with a quick verse that fits right in with the song’s hard-hitting production. 21 Savage records a menacing verse and Baby Tate closes the first half of the song with a floating vocal to end those. JID then returns to lay another cutthroat to wrap up his big comeback. The single also arrives with a accompanying video that captures JID, 21 Savage and Baby Tate on the prowl for late night fun.

For what it’s worth, JID hasn’t left us high with music since his second album from 2018 DiCaprio 2. He delivered several verses on Dreamville Revenge of the Dreamers III and Spillage Village’s Overflow. He has also delivered guest verses for Khalid, Imagine Dragons, Lute, Masego, Doja Cat, Conway The Machine, and more.
